* Opinion about coating by oil or varnish is divided
Shellac-varnish
is generally used for durability against wear
However if it's applied before
stringing a instrument,
the strong tension will make minute, unvisible cracks
in it
In my opinion, varnish is better applied after stringing &
tuning
Normal coating does not change the sound and the specific
gravity
of the strings as the oil or varnish does not soak deeply into
them

I found that their defferent properties create different sounds

! they change the sound ! interesting but frightening !
